Five of the best excursions near Torrevieja

1. Isla Tabarca

This trip can only be made by boat between May and October. La Isla de Tabarca has a length of 2 kilometers and a width of 400 meters. The island has a rich history, with stories of pirates and settlers. The colorful environment consists of murals, churches and even a lighthouse that fits perfectly. This charming island was declared a historical-artistic heritage on August 27, 1964, so it is certainly no punishment to explore this place!

2. Altea

Altea is a favorite place of many artists, many of them have galleries and studios. It is a true paradise for art lovers.

A characteristic aspect of Altea are the roofs with blue tiles, with the Nuestra Señora del Consuelo as an example.

Despite its growing popularity in recent years by tourists, Altea is still an authentic little Spanish village. This village is located just 15 kilometers north of Benidorm. You can easily visit it with your own vehicle or with a combination of bus/train from Alicante.

3. Las fuentes de Algar

This natural park has been declared a protected zone by the Valencian government. To get there, follow the direction of Benidorm and continue your route towards the interior of Callosa d'en Sarria.

You will have to walk 1.5 kilometers along a marked route, along the river Algar. Admire the waterfalls and take a refreshing dip in the natural pools, the crystal clear waters are a real pleasure. Either way, this is an excursion you won't soon forget!

4. Cartagena

If you love history and if ancient monuments are your passion, Cartagena is the perfect destination for your next vacation. Experience the atmosphere of the beautiful and modern city, it is absolutely worth it!

The bus journey with the company Costa Azul takes less than 2 hours and costs around €6.20 per person and drops you off at Cartagena's main bus station, a short walk from the sights.

A must to visit is the Roman amphitheater and of course the forum. Also, don't miss la Casa Fortuna (a Roman villa) as you walk through beautiful streets like la calle Mayor. Another option is a boat trip in the harbor with a beautiful view of the city and the fortresses that protected the entrance.

Before you leave Cartagena, you can also do some good shopping and taste the local gastronomy.

5. El Castillo de Guadalest

The perfect combination between nature and architecture, between the rocks and mountains. Guadalest is an excursion that takes you to the Sierra d'Aixorta, a place north of Benidorm. It is one of the most visited places in Alicante.

The beauty of this area and the famous medieval castle of San José make it absolutely worth a visit. You can reach the castle through cobbled streets, with the tower high on the rocks.

For such a small city, Guadalest has quite a few museums:

Museum of Antonio Marco. Belen y Casitas de Muñecas

Museo de microminiaturas (miniature figures)

Museo microgigante

Museo Etnologico. (a typical house in the style of the 18th century)

Museo Historico Medieval

Ribera Girona Museum.

Museo–Colección de Vehículos Históricos "Vall de Guadalest" (Old Vehicles)
